Asher has been Adopted!

Asher was actually adopted a couple of months ago. We were waiting for his new family to give us a thumbs up on his adoption. After many wonderful updates, they sent this picture and said to post Asher as adopted. His new family said he is "home".

Update from Asher's new family:

Volunteering at the Rescue was one of the better decisions I made for 2020. I met my adoptee (Asher – 3yr) on the first day of volunteering and, any free moment, I filled in spending a little time getting to know Asher.

After 4 months of deliberating, I decided Asher would have a new home as long as he works well with my 3-year-old. He’s doing phenomenally! Now at the point where there are no accidents in the house (I do not kennel), his anxiety is way down, and his overall obedience has improved drastically. There are some minute things to work on, but he has turned out such a great addition to my family.

Adopting is difficult in general but adopting a dog that has no written history other than his time at the rescue was semi daunting to me as I have experience working with abused and sheltered dogs. It took 2 months for Asher to become accommodated to the house rules and responsibilities.

I urge everyone to take multiple trips to interact before adopting your choice. Play with them, feed them, or if they are unsocialized, sit in their pen with them for an hour or 2 without trying to call them over. I think a very big part to Asher’s transition was that he and I had interacted on more than 7 occasions.

If you have adopted and are looking for advice or guidance on the transition period, please feel free to reach out. The rescue has my email and can get that to you.

Again, adopting Asher, and the experience that went with it was the best choice of 2020.
